⚠️ Help Us Spread the Word! ⚠️ Harmful algae blooms are affecting many lakes and waterways this year, and awareness can save lives. Please take a moment to share this post with your friends and family. Knowing what to look for can help protect children, pets, and anyone enjoying the outdoors. If the water looks bright green, blue-green, or has thick surface scum, stay out and keep your pets away. Together, we can keep our outdoor community safe. 💚 Stay informed. Stay safe. Protect our outdoors.

If you’ve been around Nevada Outdoor Recovery, you’ve probably seen our four-legged mascot, Sonny! 🐕❤️ Sonny reminds us of something important: healing doesn’t always happen in an office—it can happen on a trail, by the water, around a campfire, or simply with a loyal companion by your side. Just like recovery, every adventure starts with one step (or one paw 🐾). Sonny represents resilience, loyalty, companionship, and the joy of getting outdoors and connecting with nature. Whether we’re hiking, fishing, volunteering, or exploring Nevada’s beautiful outdoors, Sonny is always ready for the next adventure. Drop a 🐾 in the comments to say hello to Sonny!

Nevada Outdoor Recovery is excited to partner with the M25 Initiative for our upcoming Let's Go Fishing! event. We believe recovery is strengthened through connection, community, and positive experiences. By working together with organizations like the M25 Initiative, we're creating opportunities for people to get outdoors, build meaningful relationships, and experience the healing power of nature. This event is about more than fishing—it's about bringing people together, creating memories, and showing that no one has to walk their recovery journey alone. We're grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the M25 Initiative and look forward to an incredible day on the water. Here's to building stronger partnerships and a stronger recovery community across Northern Nevada! 💙 Recovery Happens Outdoors. 💚 Community Heals. 🎣 Hope Grows Here.
This week, Nevada Outdoor Recovery took a trip to one of Northern California’s most breathtaking natural landmarks: Burney Falls. Standing 129 feet tall, Burney Falls is often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” What makes it unique is that much of the water doesn’t just flow over the top of the falls—it also emerges from underground springs in the volcanic rock, creating the stunning curtain of water visitors see year-round. The falls are located within McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park and have been drawing visitors for generations. Even during California’s driest years, the falls continue to flow thanks to the powerful underground springs that feed them. For our group, the trip was more than just a chance to enjoy the scenery. It was an opportunity to connect with nature, build healthy relationships, and experience the healing power of the outdoors. Recovery is about finding new ways to live, and adventures like these remind us that there is always something beautiful waiting around the next bend in the trail.
Recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and every person’s journey looks different. Recovery can mean overcoming addiction, learning to live with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, or rebuilding life after incarceration, grief, or hardship. For some, recovery is years of sobriety; for others, it’s simply getting out of bed, asking for help, going to therapy, reconnecting with family, or finding peace in nature again. Not every battle is visible, and not every healing journey follows the same path, but every story deserves compassion, hope, and support. At Nevada Outdoor Recovery, we believe recovery happens through connection, community, and the outdoors — one step, one trail, and one day at a time.
High above the shores of Lake Tahoe, Chickadee Ridge has become a place where people slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature. Named after the friendly mountain chickadees that often land gently in visitors’ hands, the ridge reminds us that even the smallest moments in nature can leave the biggest impact. For generations, the trails around the Mount Rose area were traveled by Indigenous communities, early explorers, hikers, and outdoor lovers seeking peace in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Today, Chickadee Ridge continues that tradition — bringing people together through wonder, reflection, and the healing power of the outdoors. “Sometimes recovery, hope, and peace begin with something simple — a quiet trail, fresh mountain air, and a tiny bird brave enough to trust you.”
Nevada Outdoor Recovery (NOR) is a newly launched pilot program built on a simple but powerful belief: healing happens in connection—with nature, with community, and with purpose. As we begin this journey, we are laying the foundation for a recovery-focused outdoor program that brings people together through shared experiences, peer support, and meaningful service in the outdoors. NOR is designed to meet people where they are and offer real opportunities for growth, stability, and connection beyond traditional recovery settings. Our Mission Nevada Outdoor Recovery is dedicated to promoting healing, wellness, and personal growth through outdoor experiences, peer support, and community connection. We strive to provide safe, inclusive, and recovery-focused opportunities that empower individuals to build resilience, discover purpose, and strengthen long-term recovery through nature and adventure. This mission guides everything we do—from our programs to our partnerships and the communities we serve. A Pilot Program Built From the Ground Up NOR is currently operating as a pilot program, which means we are in the early stages of development, testing, and community collaboration. This stage is intentional. It allows us to grow responsibly, listen to participant feedback, and build programming that truly reflects the needs of individuals in recovery across Nevada. We are actively shaping what NOR will become, and every step forward is guided by lived experience, community input, and a commitment to long-term impact. What We Offer NOR focuses on four core areas of support and engagement: Peer Support & PRSS Services Recovery is stronger when it’s shared. NOR integrates Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS) to provide mentorship, accountability, and encouragement from individuals with lived experience. These services help participants build trust, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Outdoor Adventure Programming Nature is a powerful tool for healing. Through group hikes, camping trips, fishing outings, and other outdoor adventures, participants are encouraged to reconnect with themselves and the world around them. These experiences promote resilience, mindfulness, and healthy connection. Community Trail Cleanups Service is a key part of recovery and personal growth. NOR organizes trail cleanups and environmental stewardship projects that allow participants to give back to the land and communities that support them. These events foster responsibility, pride, and teamwork while improving Nevada’s outdoor spaces. Education & Life Skills Classes Recovery is not only about support—it’s also about building skills for long-term success. NOR offers educational opportunities focused on topics such as outdoor safety, first aid, wellness, recovery tools, and personal development. These classes help participants gain confidence and practical knowledge for everyday life. Building Community Through Connection At its core, Nevada Outdoor Recovery is about rebuilding connection—connection to self, to others, and to nature. We believe that recovery is not a solo journey, and that shared experiences in the outdoors can open doors to healing that traditional environments sometimes cannot. Whether it’s hiking a trail together, cleaning up a local area, or learning a new skill, every NOR activity is designed to create meaningful connection and lasting impact. Looking Ahead As a growing pilot program, NOR is focused on expansion, partnership-building, and strengthening our services. We are committed to serving individuals in recovery across Nevada and creating accessible outdoor-based opportunities that support long-term wellness. We invite community members, organizations, and supporters to join us in building this vision. Together, we can create a stronger, healthier, and more connected Nevada—one trail, one conversation, and one experience at a time.
